Semi-Private Swimming Lessons Singapore: Cost Per Student (2026)

Quick answer: Semi-private swimming lessons in Singapore cost roughly $30 to $61 per student per 45-minute lesson, depending on how many students share the coach and whether the pool is a public complex or an indoor heated one. Swim Masters publishes $50 per student per lesson for 2 students, $37.50 for 3 and $30 for 4 — billed as $200, $150 and $120 per student per four lessons.

What is a semi-private swimming lesson?

A semi-private lesson is two to four students sharing one coach, usually siblings, cousins, friends or condo neighbours who already know each other and are at a similar level. It sits between a one-to-one private lesson and a full group class: more coach attention than a group, lower cost per student than private.

Most schools in Singapore do not match strangers into semi-private groups. You bring your own pair or trio, and the school assesses whether the levels are close enough for the format to work.

Two things to read from that table. First, the per-student price falls steeply as the group grows: at four sharing, semi-private costs about the same as a group class at several schools. Second, the spread between the cheapest and dearest option at the same ratio is roughly $11 to $31 per lesson, and most of that gap is the pool — indoor heated pools cost more than public complexes.

Singapore Swimming Academy charges more when the coach is female: $230 versus $205 per student at two sharing. Swim Masters does not add a female-coach surcharge to group lessons at Senja-Cashew (Bukit Panjang) or Delta SC; at other venues served by freelance coaches a surcharge can apply and is quoted before you book.

Semi-private vs private vs group: what you actually pay

The jump that matters is from one to two: adding a second learner halves the cost per student. Going from two to four only saves another $20 per lesson, and it costs you coach attention. For most families, two or three sharing is the sensible middle.

A trial private lesson for one or two learners is $140. New kids-group students also pay a $55 equipment charge and a $100 deposit, both waived on the six-month package; adults pay no registration fee, no deposit and no equipment fee, apart from $15 per item if they need a kickboard or goggles.

When semi-private works — and when it does not

Semi-private works when the learners are close in ability and comfortable with each other. Two siblings a stage apart is usually fine. A confident eight-year-old paired with a frightened five-year-old is not: the coach ends up teaching two different lessons in one slot, and both students get less than they paid for.

It is a good fit for:

  • siblings or cousins on the same schedule

  • friends or classmates learning together

  • condo neighbours booking one slot at their own pool

  • an anxious older beginner who wants company but not a full class

  • adults who want private-level attention at a shared price

It is a poor fit when abilities are far apart, when one learner needs constant one-to-one contact in the water, or when the two families cannot reliably attend the same slot — a shared booking that one student keeps missing wastes the other's money.

Semi-private swimming lessons with Swim Masters

Swim Masters Singapore is an MOE-registered school with NROC-certified coaches, rated 4.9 from 217 Google reviews. Semi-private lessons run at public complexes including Senja-Cashew (Bukit Panjang), Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang, Delta and Queenstown, and at selected condominium pools where management allows external coaches.

Lessons follow the same SwimSafer-aligned progression as the group programme, so a child moving between formats does not start again. Tell us the ages, current ability of each learner, your preferred pool and two or three workable time slots, and we will confirm whether the pairing suits semi-private or whether one learner would do better in a group class or one-to-one.

Frequently asked questions

How much cheaper is semi-private than private?

At Swim Masters, two students sharing pay $50 per student per lesson against $100 for one-to-one — half price. Three sharing pay $37.50 and four pay $30, so a group of four pays 70% less per student than a private lesson.

Can I bring my own pair, or does the school match us?

You bring your own. Semi-private groups in Singapore are almost always formed by families who already know each other — siblings, friends, classmates or condo neighbours. If you have nobody to pair with, a group class is usually the better option.

What if the two learners are at different levels?

A gap of one stage is workable. A wide gap is not, and a good school will say so before taking your money. The usual fix is to put the stronger learner in a group class at their level and keep the other in private lessons until they catch up.

Is semi-private available for adults?

Yes. Adults commonly book semi-private with a spouse, sibling or colleague. The same per-student rates apply — $200, $150 and $120 per student per four lessons at 2, 3 and 4 sharing.

Can semi-private lessons run at my condo pool?

Yes, subject to your management office allowing external coaches and the pool having a suitable shallow area. Condo lessons are popular with neighbours splitting one slot between two or three children.

Does a female coach cost more for semi-private lessons?

Not for group lessons at Senja-Cashew (Bukit Panjang) or Delta SC, where there is no female-coach surcharge. At other venues served by freelance coaches a surcharge can apply to private and semi-private lessons, and it is quoted before you book. Singapore Swimming Academy, by comparison, publishes a lady-coach premium of $25 per student per month at two sharing.

How long is a semi-private lesson?

45 minutes at Swim Masters, the same as a group class. Some schools run 30-minute sessions for children under four, which is worth checking when you compare per-lesson prices.
