Swimming Lesson Prices in Singapore: What Nine Schools Charge in 2026

Swimming lessons in Singapore run from about $25 to $110 per lesson per student. The gap is not mostly about quality — it is about class ratio, whether the pool is a public ActiveSG complex or a private indoor heated pool, and whether you are paying weekday or weekend rates.

Most price pages are one school quoting its own rates. This one compares nine schools side by side, normalised to price per lesson per student so the numbers are actually comparable, and shows where Swim Masters sits — including the formats where we are not the cheapest.

The short answer

For a child in a group class at a public pool, expect $25 to $45 per lesson. For one-to-one private coaching, expect $75 to $110 per lesson. Semi-private — two to four learners sharing a coach — lands between the two at roughly $30 to $60 per student per lesson, and is the format most families underuse.

Indoor heated-pool schools sit above these ranges because you are paying for the facility as well as the coaching. Public-pool entry is charged separately almost everywhere, and it is small: $0.50 to $2.00 depending on age, pool type and day.

Group lessons at public pools, compared

Group classes are how most Singaporean children learn. Ratios run from one coach to four students up to one to eight or ten, which is the single biggest driver of both price and progress rate.

Two things are worth reading off this table. First, $30 per lesson is the market's centre of gravity for a public-pool group class — six of the nine schools land on it almost exactly. Second, Happy Fish is not expensive for what it is: an indoor heated pool means no rained-off lessons and warm water for small children, and that is a different product from a public-pool class, not a worse-value version of one. Its weekend rate rises to $54.50 per lesson.

Swim Masters is at the upper end of one-to-one pricing, and it is fair to ask why when our group rate is the lowest here.

The honest answer is that our private lessons are taught by NROC-registered, MOE-registered coaches, and that includes adaptive and special-needs instruction at no surcharge — a swimmer who needs one-to-one adaptive coaching pays the same $400 as anyone else. Whether that is worth $20 to $25 a lesson over the cheapest option here is a reasonable thing to weigh, and it depends on the swimmer. Our private swimming lesson rates are covered in detail here.

Semi-private is the format most families miss

Semi-private means two to four learners sharing one coach — usually siblings, cousins, or two families who book together. You keep most of the individual attention of a private lesson at close to group pricing, and it is the best value in the market for a nervous child who is not ready for a class of eight.

All figures are cost per student per lesson. Read this against the private table above. A pair of siblings in a Swim Masters 1-to-2 lesson pays $50 per child per lesson — half the one-to-one rate, for a coach split two ways rather than eight. Four learners booking together pay $30 each, the same as a group class, with a quarter of the class size.

The costs that are not in the lesson fee

Lesson fees are the headline, not the total. Four things get added on, and schools disclose them inconsistently.

Public-pool entry. Charged at the gantry, separately from lesson fees, at every school teaching in an ActiveSG complex. For Singapore Citizens and PRs at a normal pool: $1.00 for adults on weekdays, $1.30 on weekends and public holidays; $0.50 and $0.60 for children and seniors. Feature pools — Choa Chu Kang, Jurong East and West, Sengkang, Pasir Ris, HeartBeat@Bedok, Our Tampines Hub — cost $1.50 and $2.00 for adults, $0.80 and $1.00 for children and seniors. Foreigner rates are higher. If you are at the pool more than a few times a month, MyActiveSWIM is $10 a month for adults and $5 for children and seniors, unlimited.

Equipment and deposits. Ask about this before you commit anywhere, because it is where a quoted monthly fee stops telling the whole story. At Swim Masters it depends on the programme. New kids group students pay a $55 equipment fee and a $100 deposit, both waived on the 6-month package. Adult lessons carry no deposit, no equipment fee and no registration fee at all — an adult who needs a kickboard or goggles pays $15 an item, and nothing if they already have their own. Some schools bundle equipment free with sign-up — JustSwim includes a starter kit worth $69.90 at selected complexes, and Swimwerks includes personal accident insurance in its fees.

Female-coach and mixed-age surcharges. Several schools price these differently. JustSwim charges $10 extra per session for a female coach and another $10 for mixed age groups; SwimJourney prices female-coach lessons separately. At Swim Masters a female coach can be requested where available; confirm the arrangement when you enquire.

SwimSafer assessment. The test is booked and paid through the CAMS platform run by Singapore Aquatics, not through your school, and is separate from lesson fees. Trial lessons, compared

A trial is the cheapest useful thing you can buy in this market, because ratio and coach fit are the two things you cannot judge from a website.

Happy Fish charges $50 for a single trial. JustSwim offers a free trial at selected locations. Swim Masters lists a $140 private trial for one or two learners, which is a real lesson with a full assessment rather than a taster — you leave knowing which stage your child starts at.

Whatever you book, use it to check three things: the actual number of children in the water with that coach, whether the coach is registered on Sport Singapore's National Registry of Coaches, and the makeup policy in writing. Our trials, makeup lessons and payment terms are set out here.

What actually moves the price

Ratio, above everything. A 1-to-4 class and a 1-to-8 class at the same headline price are not the same purchase. Ask for the cap, not the average.

Pool type. Indoor heated pools cost more and are worth it for babies, toddlers, and anyone who cannot afford weather cancellations. Public complexes are cheaper and are where SwimSafer assessment happens.

Weekday versus weekend. The gap is larger than most parents expect — Happy Fish runs $39.79 weekday against $54.50 weekend for the same kids class. If your schedule is flexible, weekday slots are the easiest saving in this guide.

Coach registration. NROC registration and MOE registration are verifiable; a website saying "certified" is not. Ask for the registration number.

Lesson length. Under-4s are often taught in 30-minute sessions rather than 45. A $30 lesson that runs 30 minutes is a $45-per-hour lesson.

Where Swim Masters sits

On group lessons we are the lowest rate in this comparison at $25 per lesson. On semi-private we are at market rate. On one-to-one we are at the upper end, and the case for that is coach registration and adaptive capability rather than price.

Kids group lessons are $100 every 4 weeks. Adult group courses are $280 for 8 lessons. Private one-to-one is $400 for 4 lessons, semi-private is $120 to $200 per student for 4 lessons depending on group size, and a private trial for one or two learners is $140. Why are private swimming lessons three to four times the price of group lessons?

You are paying for one coach's undivided time rather than a share of it. A $100 private lesson and a $25 group lesson can involve the same coach — the difference is that in the group class that coach is split between six or eight children. Private lessons make the most difference for nervous learners, adults starting from zero, and swimmers needing stroke correction.

Do female swim coaches cost more in Singapore?

It depends on the school. Some charge a surcharge — JustSwim adds $10 per session for a female coach — and others price female-coach lessons on a separate rate card. Ask before booking, because it is not always shown on the rate page.
